It's really funny to see all the people get excited about the damn and hang out and watch it. The best part is the park and hiking trails. There is this one area where the only cover on the ground is this lush long bright green grass with scattered trees. This place is one of my favorite memories because the first time I came here was with Dave and we had a really wonderful time.
It was when we first started dating and it was just such a loving time. Everything felt fresh and new. We ate apples and croissants by the water while watching deer and hide away from everyone in tall weeds that came up to our shoulders. We built a fort, made love and hung out there listening to all the sounds that surrounded us.
It was interesting to walk around with Travis. Seeing how things seem so familiar. Like nothing was new or fresh. Travis was bored and we had to make up elaborate stories about the tall weeds about monsters that were lurking, or dogs..because Travis hates dogs but nothing about lovers hiding in them. Well, I guess that wouldn't be much interesting to a 13 year old boy anyways.
As we were walking back and as I looked at the miles of a sea of green gently swaying I felt like I couldn't think of one place more beautiful then here at that exact moment. And I guess for a second it felt so wonderful and new again. At least until I saw the damns and we got to the parking lot.
